Quality, Time or Cost – What’s the Most Important?

Thinking about that upcoming project and not certain which is the most important to prioritize? Cost, Time or Quality? Let’s look at at all three options and what’s the best option for your project? Now different projects might have different answers. So we’ll be looking at generalities.

Our first option is to focus on cost. A lot of homeowners when they’re just starting their project make this their first priority. I want to go over with you how that is one of the biggest mistakes they make. Why?

Because you will end up with one of a few possibilities.

  • Expensive Change Orders
  • Chaos as you try to figure things out during construction
  • An inferior end result
  • More expensive construction
  • And more issues that can arise.

So can I ask you? Do you want to risk that?

Now let’s look at the next option - Time.

The truth is depending on the scale of your project from start of design to construction is complete it can be a few months to over a year. In my personal experience, typically it’s not as big of an influence on the whole process as the opposite qualities of cutting costs on design or investing in a quality design.

So let’s move onto our third and final option. The Quality Design. The truth is quality design and quality construction go hand in hand. When you’re investing in your home as a remodel. You want to invest in the quality. Why? Because for all the time and energy you’ll be investing. You want it to be the home you truly love.

YOUR UPCOMING REMODEL WHICH IS YOU - QUALITY DESIGN OR LOW COST SOLUTION.

Let’s look at an example.

I speak to a lot of homeowners who are looking to finally remodel / add onto their home to transform it into their dream home. Let's look at two different families. So lets look at two families ready to expand their kitchen with a small remodel in their back yard. Simple Right? Not so.

Family A:

They know what they want. Have it marked out in painters tape in the back yard and just need the design documented showcasing what they're thinking of for the contractor and the city. Problem is, their initial ideal may not be their best option and isn't taking into account a lot of options. So construction gets delayed as they discover things such as they can't quite fit the kitchen layout they were thinking of, or issues with connecting the addition to the existing. At the end of the day cutting corners on both time and money investing in a quality design at the beginning will cost them either in a design they don't love, or worse, one they don't love and a nightmare of a process during construction.

Family B:

They recognize that by investing in a quality design they'll be more confident during construction and get the home they truly love. So they invest in a quality design. It may cost more, but when taking into account the whole cost of the project often their project will finish quicker and less over budget. But the key - by investing in a great design. They make sure that everything works well together.

So what's your best option?

The best option is like family B. Invest in the beginning so that you have the quality that will last and you love.

So at the end of the day, it’s worth it, investing in great design. If you’re ready to invest in great design for your home, book a call with us today to get your plan for doing that. Book it at Ellenlind.com/call.
