Most people think they’ll just make do with what they’ve got rather than investing in their home now to make it the home they truly love costing them more in the long run.
Most homeowners think that they’ll just wait until someday to remodel or build that dream home, but the truth is someday is always someday. That is a HUGE mistake because it costs them more in the long run vs. investing to make their home the way they love now.
The truth is most homeowners when they say someday they’ll live in their dream home, things come up and it never becomes a priority. So you make do with a kitchen that doesn’t work, no master bathroom, no home office, you name it. And as you keep saying someday you’ll get to it, home repairs often get put off thinking you’ll do them all at once such that your home goes into disrepair.
Then finally you’ll suddenly move, make all the changes to sell it. Not so you can enjoy it but so the next homeowner can. Never getting to live in that home you dream of.
Big Mistake...
Not only that, the cost to build increases each year at a faster rate than inflation. So that kitchen remodel, master suite addition or whole new dream house will cost you more to build in 5 years than it will today. Even taking into account inflation.
But that’s not the only reason why its a bad idea to put it off.
The number one reason of why it’s a bad idea to put it off is a home that you just put up with will drag you down instead of inspire you to continue to improve. Think about it.
Let’s say you love cooking but your kitchen sucks and drives you crazy. It wasn’t designed for a great cooking experience. Instead it was designed as an after thought by the builder maybe 40-50 years ago. Do you like spending time cooking there? Does it inspire you?
Yes? No? Does it Inspire you?

Or what about maybe you’re now working from home, or suddenly looking at homeschooling for the next few years. Everyone’s trying to get work done and the layout just doesn’t lend itself to it. What’s it costing you to be doing work in a bad space? Hows it affecting your concentration? Hows it affecting your job?
Or what about sharing the bathroom with the kids. Or looking at needing to move if you don’t expand?
The truth is, our homes should be evolving to meet our needs and able to adapt as those said needs change over the years. So what you want is a plan of action that will not only get you on target to making your home your dream home, but be able to adapt as your needs change.
What this means is that with a plan of action for committing to transforming your home into your dream home. Even if it’s small steps you’re constantly making steps towards improving your home and investing in it to make it the home that you truly enjoy today instead of some day.
You’d be looking at the next stay at home order and be confident that you’ll love that time stuck at home instead of continuing to make do with a home that just doesn’t quite work. Constantly telling yourself someday.
HOW?
You do this by implementing what I call Your Design Persona Strategy putting together a plan of action that truly represents you and what you value for your home, and the strides that you will take to transform your home into the one that you’ll love for years to come.
